7/10/2025 0 Comments Still Plenty Of Mahi…A happy anniversary to these two. And a good day of catching mahi in Islamorada. We started early, catching live bait on the grass patches in18 feet of water. Then fished our way out to 950 feet of water. Once we got to 650 the gulfstream current was really moving and the seas picked up. That’s where we had to go to get into some mahi. Can’t wait to do it again.

7/7/2025 0 Comments Third Time’s A Charm…Bill and Mark have fished with me on three different occasions this year. These two gentlemen can catch some mahi. They’ve been fishing the Kay K IV for a few years now. Their Mahi legacy dates back to the early eighties, with the likes of such legendary captains like Scottie Kingsley on the “Swashbuckler” and Ted Desposito on the “Something Special”. It wasn’t easy today. The fish were spread out and would run away from the boat if you tried to get close and cast a bait at them. Wasn’t sure we would catch our two person limit. We found a turtle that was loaded with mahi swimming with it.
6/26/2025 0 Comments It’s Always A Pleasure…Whether on the water or on land , it’s always a pleasure spending time with Sheldon, Lauren, & John. This day couldn’t have been better. We caught plenty of mahi and even scored a wahoo. I’ve spent several days on the ocean with this family and they are all memorable. As always, this day was no different.
6/18/2025 1 Comment Fishing With Steve Is A Blast…The last couple of days has been a real treat . I’ve fished with Steve the last four or so years. Him and his wife are a couple of the kindest people in the world. They like to get involved in all the things we do to catch different species of fish. Steve was even rebooking the baits we were catching to use for our mahi adventure. It always makes for a great time when anglers get involved. See you next time.
6/18/2025 0 Comments Two of the Greatest…A couple natural born fish slayers right here. Legendary Kay K IV anglers, CP and Joe have been killing it here in Islamorada for years. And this weekend in March was no different. Limiting out on nice Yellowtail Snapper and a large Blackfin tuna. Looking forward to doing it again. I miss you guys!
6/18/2025 0 Comments June 18th, 2025The beginning of June it was an honor to have Dr. Mike Duncan aboard the Kay K IV . He’s always a hoot and a great angler. He’s quick to cast a bait to some fish and insists on tying on his own hook. Can’t wait to fish with him again next year. We were able to catch plenty of mahi and Blackfin tuna with him and his family.
6/18/2025 0 Comments Life Long Friends…On May 31, we struggled to find the Mahi, so we came in and fished the reef and saved the day catching some yellowtail snappers. I grew up with Adam and his brother Cory in Pompano Beach and am so grateful to still be friends with them now. It is always a pleasure spending the day with Adam and his wife Erin on the Kay K. They are truly a class act.
6/1/2025 0 Comments Amazing Day On The Kay K…Jason always books a couple of trips for himself and his son Quinn. They will do an afternoon tarpon trip and then a full day offshore. They are a couple of fishy guys. During the full day trip, we were able to catch a bunch of mahi a blue marlin. Quinns first. Then on the evening trip they caught a number of nurse sharks and one out of two tarpon. It’s alway a great time these two.
5/30/2025 0 Comments Short And Successful…Tuesday was a short day for us and we managed to catch a nice rack of mahi. Thankful for these two anglers. They did a great job and stayed in the action.
5/26/2025 0 Comments Rough Start , Smooth Finish…Today started out blowing hard out of the south east. If you don’t know, that’s blowing towards land for us and not a good direction for calm seas. We did find plenty of mahi today and also caught a couple of tunas. Halfway through the day the wind laid down and it was a beautiful day. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings has in store.
5/25/2025 0 Comments Good Weather And Good Fishing…A combination of goood weather and good fishing has been the daily experience lately. We haven’t had to go offshore too far to catch several mahi. Most of the fish we’ve been getting have been around 16 miles off. David and his company came to catch fish. Those guys did great, catching thirty mahi and twenty snappers. Even the guys with little experience crushed it with the help of Steven the cockpit co-ordinator.
5/24/2025 0 Comments Ladies Let’s Go Fishing…Last Saturday we fished another “Ladies Let’s Go Fishing “ tournament. A tournament put on by Miss Betty Bauman. She works very hard every year to organize tournaments for women. It’s always fun teaching the ladies the things that work to successfully catch and land fish. We’ve always said that women are the best anglers. We didn’t win the tournament or catch really big fish. We all had a fun day creating more memories.
5/22/2025 0 Comments The Weather Is Amazing…Pat and Charles love coming to Islamorada for some time on the ocean. This time Pat brought his adopted daughters along to share with them the fishing experience here. It was a great day with the wind and seas being down and the fish biting. No real big mahi on this day for us, but still caught plenty. Even a few snappers. See you guys again in July.
5/22/2025 0 Comments Caught Plenty On This Fun Day…These guys have fished on several different boats here in Islamorada. They have also caught a lot of fish over the years. I’m glad the weather and the fishing was good for them. Nice job guys. In day.
5/15/2025 0 Comments Mahi One Day, Snappers The Next…We definitely had a couple of fun days with these gentlemen. They brought their A-game to Islamorada as usual. This is the fourth year they’ve come here to fish and they have not had a slow day yet. Not to say we don’t have a tough day every once in a while. But they have been pretty lucky. On Tuesday they caught over thirty mahi, one being around twenty pounds. Then on Wednesday they caught over thirty snappers and a couple of deep drop fish from six hundred feet. Hopefully we’ll do it again next year. Always a pleasure.
5/13/2025 0 Comments Windy Monday…Couldn’t ask for a better start to the week. The day began very rough and very wet. By 11:00 am we had our limit of mahi-mahi plus a few small Blackfin tunas. This is my third trip with Bill and Mark. The Kay K IV has not let them down yet. These guys are great to fish with and travel all over to get it done. We’ll see them again in July for another epic day. Fish on!
5/10/2025 0 Comments Was A Great Day…I met Rinn at the marina several months ago. He would be down there watching the sunrise and the boats head out for the day. It seemed like part of his routine while he was down in Islamorada. Long story short, he decided to book a trip with me on the Kay K for he and his friends. Those guys were great. They crushed it! They did a great job with every species we targeted, catching blackfin tunas, mahi-mahi, & yellowtail snappers.
5/8/2025 0 Comments Summer Is Getting Closer…We have started seeing more mahi as summer approaches upon us. Today we found a barrel on a weed line and caught 28 mahi and also 3 black fin tunas. We fished the Keymorada tournament today. Even though we had a great day, we didn’t score points in the tournament. No one in the tournament will go hungry, that’s for sure.
Today was a day spent trying different things. We wahoo trolled, then tuna trolled, then mahi trolled and finally came back to arch the snappers. It was a fun day, regardless of the struggles of catching fish. We were able to catch 30 snappers , 1 Blackfin tuna, and a respectable sized yellow jack. All great table fair. By the crews smiles, more good memories on the water were created.
5/8/2025 0 Comments Just A Little Sporty…Another Islamorada beautiful day. However the wind was blowing and we gave it our best shot. We started out with plans of going offshore for some mahi and Blackfin tunas. But settled on snapper fishing at the reef edge. After calling the trip a little short, Veteran Anglers Don and Linda accompanied with their son and granddaughters caught their limit of nice Yellowtail snapper.
5/5/2025 0 Comments Sunday Snappers And Mahi…Mr. Drago brought his friends down for a great day on the Kay K. We started out snapper fishing to get the pressure off and since they are biting so well. Then headed off shore unsure of what we may find. We were fortunate to locate a current edge that held debris and sarcasm weed. There were quite few mahi there as well. We took what we could and left plenty to grow up some more.
5/5/2025 0 Comments Another Fun Half Day…Captain Don and I talked about doing a fun fishing trip, which we do every so often because we do love fishing too. So we brought some friends along and did just that. We had a fun time catching snappers for a few hours and brought fish home for ourselves. Captain Don out fished me again.
4/23/2025 1 Comment Way To Spend A Birthday…One thing Mary Sue loves, and that’s fishing. This she planned a couple days on the Kay K but could only get one in due to the strong east wind. So we mixed it up with some reef fishing catching a limit of Yellowtail Snapper and then some offshore trolling catching a plenty of Mahi-Mahi. Its seems a little early for the Mahi which usually gets going in May. Hopefully this summer we see large numbers of fish. A happy birthday to Mary Sue, can’t wait to go do it again.
4/3/2025 0 Comments Catching Fish In Paradise…The target of the day was to catch fish that pulled hard. Sometimes catching fish is a tough task , let alone , the harder fighting species. We got it done on this March 25 day. This tuna will be hanging on this young man’s wall when Gray Taxidermy puts the finishing touches and ships it out.
